Before you decide

  1. Start with a paid order

Use the price after discounts, including shipping you charge. Exclude tax you collect and remit. Landed product cost includes the inbound costs allocated to this order.

  2. Count each cost once

Fees are the total platform and payment charges for one order. Refund adjustment includes expected refunded revenue and additional return costs, less evidenced recoveries. Do not add the original goods, shipping or fees a second time.

  3. Value your time

Multiply support and packing hours by the hourly value you choose. Include acquisition time there too if it belongs to the order. Contribution is what remains for overhead, launch costs and taxes; it is not net profit.

  4. Distinguish profit from cash

A supplier may need payment before funds clear. Test a refund case and record peak cash needed separately.

Make the next decision with the full picture.

A single order is the starting point. Compare your expected order volume against fixed and launch costs. Then check when you pay suppliers and when customer payments become available.

This free worksheet covers one order. Save its inputs and result, then use your actual records to plan the wider business.
